The Softness is Coming Back to Me (Slowly, Gently)

Learning to Welcome Peace Back into My Life

There was a time I couldn’t imagine smiling without forcing it.
When softness felt foreign, even suspicious.
I was sharp edges and stiff shoulders and heavy sighs.

But something’s shifting.

The other day, I laughed. Like… actually laughed.
It caught me off guard. I was celebrating my youngest turning 4, watching him get adorably frustrated trying to blow out trick candles.
And for a second, nothing hurt. No past. No betrayal. Just… peace.

I’m not saying I’m healed.
I’m saying the softness is returning.

It’s in the way I talk to myself when I forget something, instead of spiraling into shame.
It’s in the way I light a candle just for me, not to set the mood for anyone else.
It’s in the way I’ve started humming again when I wash dishes.

The woman I was before is gone.
But a gentler one is waking up.

Healing Doesn’t Always Roar

Sometimes, it whispers.
Sometimes, it smells like lavender and sounds like wind chimes.
Sometimes, it means texting a friend just to say, “I’m proud of you.”

I’m not who I was—but maybe that’s the point.

If you’re just now learning how to hold yourself with kindness, I want you to know:
I’m doing it too. And you don’t have to rush it.

Softness, when it’s real, takes its time.
